[Lead shield at top of stone reads:] This tablet has been contributed by the members of the Loyal Orthodox Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Bolton le Moors of the Manchester Unity in testimony of their profound regret for the loss of Wm LATHAM P.P.G.M. & Robt HASLAM, Treasurer of the above Lodge, who are interred here. Their zeal in the cause of Odd-fellowship will be long remembered by all who knew them. Sacred to the memory of Robert HASLAM, yeoman of Bolton-le-Moor, Lancashire who was unfortunately drowned on his passage from Liverpool to Glasgow by the striking of the Steam Packet Orion on the sunken rocks called The Bushes near this port on the 18th June 1850 aged 35 years. He was a man of strict probity and sterling honesty, affable and good-natured, a good citizen and a worthy brother, and one who wished to leave the world a better place than he found it. He lived respected and died lamented. This stone is erected by his brother Peter HASLAM to perpetuate his memory. Also William LATHAM aged [4]8 years from the same place who lost his life in the aforesaid dreadful catastrophe. His genius and inflexible integrity procured for him the approbation and affection of all who knew him. He has left a wife and four children to deplore his unhappy fate.

There is interred in front of this stone Mr James McCONNELL who died the 29th September 1833, aged 57 years. He was for a number of years Captain of H.M. Post Office Sailing Packet Palmer. Successively Chief Mate of H.M. Post Office Steam Packet [Dasher and Fury]. He lived highly respected and died deeply and justly regretted. [on reverse] Erected by James McCONNELL in memory of John COCHRANE, late Clerk of the customs at Port Patrick, his father-in-law who died the 18th March 1807, aged 66 years. Also James McCONNELL, his son who died the 20th January 1812, aged 18 months and Elizabeth LENNOX, Relic of the said John COCHRANE, his Mother-in-law who died the 10th January 1821, aged 85 years. Allen BURSLEY who was drowned about a mile to the South of this Port on the 1st of February 1835 at ½ past 2 o’clock AM by the wreck of the American Ship Lion of Boston which he commanded. On the left of this stone are interred the remains of seven of his ship’s company who perished with him on that fatal morning. Captn. BURSLEY was born on the 10th of May Anno Domini 1800 at Barnstaple in the State of Massachusetts in which place he has left a wife and infant son. The surviving relatives of the deceased are deeply grateful to the humane inhabitants of this place for their kind exertions in recovering these bodies from the deep and depositing them with Christian rites in this Holy Spot.

Also Susan ANDERSON his sister died 14th November 1856 in the 10th year of her age interred in Garlieston churchyard. John ANDERSON his brother died 3rd May 1876 aged 22 years, interred in Garlieston churchyard.
